Clockwork Goldfish by Dorothea Baker

Clockwork Goldfish by

I’ve been posting WIP pictures of this fella on Twitter for a few days. I started designing the fish as part of the uni project I’m doing, and did a couple of sketches of it developing the idea. Anyway, yesterday I started to feel like doing some painting, and I had no idea what to paint. I decided to try turning my clockwork fish design into a watercolour. In the end I just couldn’t stop adding elements, and it got more and more intricate. Drawing all those cogs and gears was so much fun!
As always, scanning watercolours is reaaaly difficult. I’ve adjusted the colours to look as true to the original as possible on my monitor, but I have no idea what it’ll look like on other people’s screens…

Eraldo di Paolo watercolours, pen and black art marker on 300 gsm watercolour paper, A5
