Two Turtle Doves

Two turtle doves
One lives
One loves
Bad and good
Sides of the track
Once I cross over
I cannot cross back
Two turtle doves
Want me in their pear tree
I wanna be in both
How naive of me

The lover’s not the fighting kind
The liver lives
To loosen his mind
Two turtle doves
Want me in their pear tree
I wanna be in both
How naive of me

One wants my hand
One wants my heart
From both I want
Just a bit, a part
A piece of my puzzle
Put together
Better
A salve
Salvation
A lighter
A letter
Two turtle doves
Want me in their pear tree
I wanna be in both
How naive of me

I can’t cry
But I can lie
And pluck
The petals
Until I lay deflowered.
Pull my hair
Pushing daisies
My favorite flower remains
The Calla Lily
Can’t they both
Come to a consensus
And give my hand
To just one?
Let them decide
For I truly cannot
But even if I could
Who would I want?
There’s the good dove
Who was the early bird
But he was the bird
Who did not want the worm
He’d hold my hand
Shove his face in the sand
When presented
With the chance
to stand up to the lions
The bad dove
Lives off chemicals
And broken dreams
And drives half empty
But he always wants his worm
And this dove
Takes what he wants
He flies high
Leaves his head down low
In my care and I hold it
And wait for the sand to blow away
The good dove’d sweep me up
Take me under his wing
Kiss me passionately
As if no one else
Could touch us
As if no one else
Matter as much
As the man in the looking glass
And his woman looking back
Two turtle doves
Want me in their pear tree
I wanna be in both
How naive of me

Will the real lover
Please stand up?
