Prologue
I walked down the lonely street; I didn’t see a person; though the street was filled with cars. The obvious ruins of war, even if it was a war between humans and a “non-existent” creature. It took everything I had, but I finally killed Dangerous Cheese. He was the monster, alien, thing I had to fight a while back. Three years ago; I came home to find a ten foot tall beast waiting outside my room, by that time he had partially crushed my cat, nearly killed my mother, and destroyed part of my apartment. That was years ago, history outside a textbook, but there was more than just a flat out war, more “behind the scenes” as many people would say. A whole story, life, family and friendship, I had to leave behind my home, and I was still found by him. The army, military, CIA, none of them were involved, but me and my friends were enough to fight off an army of monsters in a range of five to twenty feet tall. We didn’t even stay in our galaxy. The world they lived on was similar to earth, except it had a permanent red sky and there were magic items on a regular basis.
I went on a long, perilous journey to stop them and I succeeded; sure I died a few times, turned into a monster, and gained a massive amount of radiation from nuclear warfare, but in the end saved a small portion of the earth. A few people lost their lives in York, and Antarctica was blown off the face of the earth; plus I didn’t have plans to go to Africa any time soon, of course I would have to deal with the fact that because I wasn’t fast enough millions of people died, but over all I saved most of the world’s population. Now I have to face the long walk home, I’m not sure which country I happen to be on, but at least I know I have the right planet. I have been walking around for hours, but finally I have a hint at where I am. I found what I believe to be the empire state building. I figure I should walk around to make sure I should walk around to see if there’s a map somewhere.
My theory was right; I am indeed in New York, which is a good and bad thing since I know where I am, but at the same time it’s a really long walk back to York. I guess I could take advantage of my powers to fly home far above the earth. I should explain how I got my powers; last summer I was with my friends Bob and Thomas, when a strange old mane named Bart walked up to us and said we had to finish a special job. He had a long talk with our parents and they told us to go with him, we got to a strange little building in an unnoticed town south of Austin, and there was an earthquake. The next thing we knew we were giant monsters similar to Dangerous Cheese. First I tried sprouting my wings so I could fly; nothing. Next I tried using my super speed, again nothing. I walked up to a car to test my super strength by picking up a car; I pulled and pushed but the car didn’t move a millimeter. I was stuck walking, at least until I got to an area where I could drive without having to worry about crashing into the other cars on the road.
Hours and hours of nothing but walking when finally I saw something moving, I ran to see what it could have been. When I got closer it started to run away, when it ran I sprinted, when I sprinted it jumped to the top of a high building. I went inside the hotel and ran up the stairs as fast as I possibly could; I was followed by a barrage of diamond shards and falling steps. There was almost no possible way to make it up the stairs, without my powers I wasn’t fast enough to avoid falling the eight flights of stairs. I had no idea what was shooting the shards at me since all that was in the staircase was me and the walls. As I got closer to the top of the building I started losing my breath, and my footing. Two steps before the top platform, but as I took one of the last steps the step in front of me fell; a trick. With my left leg I launched myself into the air hitting my leg on the edge of the platform and barrel-rolling to the door leading to the roof. Part of the landing a few feet away from me made a loud crashing sound and the ground was impaled, but my sharp instincts got me on my feet and out of the door before the final part of the staircase collapsed to the ground.
Even with all the noise from the stairs the beast didn’t have the slightest idea anything had happened, and if he did he was good at hiding it. I crept up behind the beast to get a closer look, but just as I was about to see observe it another diamond flew right next to my head; launching itself into the back of the strange creature causing it to fall down to the earth a hundred feet below. I spun around as fast as a jackrabbit to see what had been trying to kill me this entire time, but if anything was ever there it was already gone.
I am almost positive it is Dangerous Cheese that is doing this to me, but how? He has been nowhere to be seen this entire time, the stairway was too small for him to fit in, and I can’t forget the fact that just last year I had the help of three friends to obliterate him and destroy most of his home world. At this moment I can feel a strange presence all around me, almost as if it’s trying to get inside of me, but is too large to fit. A surge of power emitted from me causing what was left of the entrance from the stairs to fly off the roof of the building. I look at myself to see what happened, and with a gasp I realize the monster that ran from me was my power of speed in the original, alien form. I ran around the roof testing my theory for a minute until I had started to destroy the cement forming the ceiling. As another test I ran to the edge of the roof and took the leap that could kill me if I was wrong.
I was aiming for a building close by, but ended up over shooting and crashing through a window on a much larger building. Once the window shattered I hit the ground with the same impact of a car going a hundred miles an hour hitting a wall. I slammed into a concrete wall and gave it a large indention before I had a chance to roll onto my feet again. A ball of fire was hurdled through the window I plummeted into, heading directly for my face. Every second it gained more speed and power, before long it was like a mini star tracking me down not letting up for a second. I tried to trick it by doing rolls and heading down flight after flight of stairs until I reached the bottom and destroyed the locked door leading to the main lobby. All I was doing was delaying the blast and destruction of my entire being as the fire ball grew larger and larger with each passing moment.
Whilst I was running I lunged through the ceiling of the story above me, and then did a one hundred eighty degree spin, and launched myself the other direction obliterating the window, and concrete below in half a second. However I didn’t let this stop me for a second since the gigantic sphere of destruction was trailing close behind. Suddenly I got an idea; I rocketed toward the ocean and ran on top of the water down the coast. Slowly the small sun was shrinking until it was nothing more than a small ember, and by this time I was back to York.
It had taken me five minutes to get from New York to Florida, so it should only take me about two or three minutes to get back to York, and possibly four to get back to my house in prosper. I stopped by a motel and watched the news for a minute since I heard the people on some world news channel talking about what was known about my story. My friends Liam and Thomas had gone missing! I couldn’t believe it, I thought I was in bad shape being hurled into New York, but not a single person knew where they were. I was about to leave when I heard the reporter say it had been almost two years since we had gone missing, and it was likely we weren’t going to be found, alive at least.
Chapter 1
“Zach? Thomas? Are you guys here?” I yelled as loud as he possibly could. From the second I had awoken into the dark city to which my body currently belonged, I had known something was wrong. I could see no apparent wounds, but I was hurt and aching. Not I, Zach, or Thomas had been hurt without a large amount of blood loss since we had become the hideous alien, monster, creatures, I personally never did or will care about the names. Other than Dangerous Cheese, Dangerous cheese was the reason I had started talking to Zach in the first place. Ever since I was a young boy I strongly accepted the fact that monsters, aliens, and other supernatural things really exist.
Everyone has always made fun of me, but once we saw Dangerous Cheese they started to respect me. For the first time people respected me, and after we had fought him off the first time, they knew my true strength, although within the group I wasn’t actually the one who used physique, but brain strength. Zach and Thomas used strength, Zach used his brain and brawn, Thomas only brawn, and me only brain. Now instead of getting stuck in the past; I have to get back to the matters currently at hand. I don’t think there’s a single person in this city, but the sky has a dark tint to it forcing me to go off of my sense of touch.
