The water chilled your feet the first time,
You felt the waves play on your feet,
When you walked alongside a black ocean,
On sand so different than your gravel streets.
As you stared at the moon’s reflection,
Like glances of silver turning gold,
For a moment you didn’t even miss,
The sunrise over the fields back home.
It wasn’t hard to fall in love with,
Rolling waves the sun kissed,
That swept you up,
Far too fast for you to notice.
But when the storm hit hard,
You couldn’t keep your balance,
Between the wind and the waves,
And the thunder’s deafening silence.
It was electricity in the air that thrilled you,
And shook you to the core.
But you were far too reckless,
This world was never yours.
Your body thrown against the rocks,
That shattered your control.
As amazing as it is,
You know you’ve got to let it go.
