One of a few new works I did for the Folk Art Fine Art show at Brunswick Street Gallery. It closes in a few days! (Thursday the 8th of September 2011)
He’s on patterned origami paper like some past works. I’ve added gold leaf too to match the gold in the paper.

A collection of curious beasts of the sea, air, land and subconscious; painted and drawn with airbrush, dip pen and stained fingers, lovingly embellished with iridescent pigments and metal leaf.www.a-curious-bestiary.com
I would love to see a tutorial on how you do this technique. The effect is stunning, but maybe a trade secret?
Nope not a secret! I just spray mount the paper to a solid piece of card, then transparent gesso it a few times, then I use masking fluid over the parts where I want paper to show through, and airbrush the rest white. Then I peel the mask off and paint in the details :)
