One of a few new works I did for the Folk Art Fine Art show at Brunswick Street Gallery. It closes in a few days! (Thursday the 8th of September 2011)

He’s on patterned origami paper like some past works. I’ve added gold leaf too to match the gold in the paper.

Visit me on facebook:

A collection of curious beasts of the sea, air, land and subconscious; painted and drawn with airbrush, dip pen and stained fingers, lovingly embellished with iridescent pigments and metal leaf.

I would love to see a tutorial on how you do this technique. The effect is stunning, but maybe a trade secret?

  • Nope not a secret! I just spray mount the paper to a solid piece of card, then transparent gesso it a few times, then I use masking fluid over the parts where I want paper to show through, and airbrush the rest white. Then I peel the mask off and paint in the details :)
