Erwin Rommel (Desert Fox)
Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel (15 November 1891 – 14 October 1944) was one of the most famous German field marshals of World War II. He was the commander of the Deutsches Afrika Korps and also became known by the nickname “The Desert Fox” for the skillful military campaigns he waged on behalf of the German Army in North Africa.
Rommel’s military successes earned the respect not only of his troops and Adolf Hitler, but also that of his enemy Commonwealth troops in the North African Campaign. An enduring legacy of Rommel’s character is that he is also considered to be a chivalrous and humane military officer in contrast with many other figures of Nazi Germany. more

Excellent drawing, your skills with the pencial are unsurpassed. I also liked reading about Rommel especially his battles with Montgomery and Patton. A terrible time brings men or indeed women of history.

Beautifully rendered and captured character

Thank you everyone. His mouth is slightly harder, his face thinner, and I gave him a right eye (in the photo I copied his eyes were shadows).

A brilliant piece that showcases your skills and talents very well. A formidable man and soldier.
As an aside, I once wanted to name a German Shepherd Rommel. Coming from a German background I thought it clever & fitting…I wondered at the time why my mother threw a blue fit. That was 30 years ago, I was 12. The dog ended up being Rex :-{

What a great name for a German Shepherd!! My boyf suggested ‘genghis’ for a cat…funny how many animals get named after military figures :)

Very neat, and very interesting person, too. I’m surprised that he was humane, as you say, but there will always be the general who is respectable and inteligent in even the most evil and brutal armies. Thank you for enlightening me. : )
