Helmet

A few weekends ago I went along to the Back Alley Atelier exhibition at the Brunswick Street Gallery. My favourite piece (it was difficult, there was so much amazing work!) was this one by Chris W , ‘A Spartan Future’:

It was spiky, shiny and mask-y, so I was inspired to create a beastly version…watercolour, pen, chalk pastel, silver leaf on canvas. He is 31×31cm.

I’d like to invite speculation as the to purpose of the eye-piece. Telescope? Night vision? Infra-red? Maybe some kind of cool kaleidoscope thing.

This angle shows the silver leaf parts:

LOL kaleidoscope…! It could be a mini-TV, and the spikes ensure perfect reception whichever way he turns ;)

Great steampunk aesthetic! I think that this ocular accessory must be related to Alex CF’s “The Inquisitor” :http://alexcf.com/blog/?page_id=26 powered with aetheric energies, and clock work mechanisms, enabled scientists to view microscopic organisms like never before, allowing the first indentification of DNA in 1858.

Thanks everyone!! Haha Damien…yeah he’s probably just watching a movie. What would he watch?
Steampunk? I had a mental picture of a mohawked guy standing at an ironing board. You can’t iron it ya dick, you put studs all over it.

Interesting link Incognita! The description of ‘steampunk’ makes me think of all the spaceships in Dune. I love them, all copper with rivets and hatches. I have a cryptozoology department in one of my websites too.

You are on my Watching list, yet I don’t think I got a preview of this, or Found. Never mind, I have seen them now and as usual they are impeccable. Paintings by Firedrake are always worth looking forward to.

well i love your work and always find it very interesting This is so entrancing. so unmenacing…but sort of wired up to the world is this one.. he needs a few more bits and pieces than he his born with. A sort of quizzical look on his face as if he is saying ” Now what’s this I’m seeing?” a bit scared like he’s about to run away… but hey I too now know what steampunk means… thanks.. :-)
