Angler Fish
Angler fish really are quite remarkable creatures! They live in the deep deep sea, further down than the light can reach, so to lure their prey in total darkness, they have rigged up a system of light emitting devices. They are not turned on here (as he is in the light, and they use up a lot of power so he only turns them on when he is hungry).
Watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte on canvas.

THIS IS AWESOME!!! Such an amazing fish. Great take on the “Light Rig” and your colour, ink detail and textures are amazing.
Noticed you don’t do Tee’s? Such a shame. Octopus & this beauty would look so good!
Firedrake replied
Thanks!
Tees are something I’ve been meaning to do for ages…I’d like to do a kind of designed version for a tee, rather than just the photo of the painting. So I keep putting it off! One day….
Linda Ridpath

I think these nightmare creatures are caused by too much rich food at bedtime, but if you stopped having nightmares we’d get no more of your fantastic pictures. Your work is so consistent I almost suspect these creatures really exist and all you have to do is sit and paint them before they eat you and your canvas :) A book of these would be great Kaitlin.
Firedrake replied
It’s normally chocolate…must be something in it!
A book is in the long term plan :)
MiMiDesigns
Very eco conscious – we should all keep our lights off except when we’re hungry (-:
Firedrake replied
There’s one energy-efficient bulb in there – he’s doing what I do, gradually replacing the bulbs when they blow into the enviro friendly ones!

Donna Huntriss
Great fun with your image as always!

aaah! i love it! what kind of pens do you use?
Firedrake replied
Thanks! I use Winsor & Newton drawing ink with a fine-nibbed dip pen. I used to use pens but I actully find I have more control with a nib. Plus you can dip it in all different coloured inks, so it’s more versatile.
Atheum
This is very cool.
