Spineflowers
In the bestiary there’s also a garden. It’s walled off though, so the beasts can’t trample it!
I loved painting the undulating fin shapes of this piece, so I had to do another.
15×30cm, watercolour, chalk pastel, ink, conte, iridescent pigments and copper leaf on canvas.

In this one you can see the shiny copper:

I wish you could really plant spinal cords to get this kind of garden. Pruning could be tricky though.
Firedrake replied
I think you’d plant a few, and then they’d just take over.

Here’s a technical question: Can you please tell me how you protect watercolour and conte on canvas? Do you seal the paintings with an acrylic varnish?

You know…every once in a while, I see something so different…so strange-
it triggers an acid flashback in my brain where for a split second I’m caught

How would they synthesize though? Or would it obtain energy differently… perhaps the wind blows them around because of the flappy bits and the motion causes it to get energy that way.
Matthew Chambe...
Whoops: I meant photosynthesize.
Firedrake
They sway a little but not a lot. Water collects in the centre of the flower and is carried down the spinal cord :)
