FOR SALE

Part of a triptych depicting the three Marys supporting Christ’s journey. His mother, his companion, and his priestess- the Madonna, Mary of Magdala and Mary of Bethany.

This painting illustrates Mary of Bethany as an Isis Priestess preparing the oils for the ritual that would return Christ to life after his impending crucifixion.

lovely, isnt this cleopatra of ancient Egypt..

  • Thank you Iouma,
It’s actually a painting of Mary of Bethany [Jn 12:1-8] the Bible, sister of Lazarus and Martha[Jn 11:1-2]. It is believed that she is the Mary who washed Christ’s feet [Jn 12:3] her hair and anointed them with oils before his crucifixion.
I’m exploring the flight of fancy that Mary could have been a Priestess of Isis, and practicing a re-incarnation ritual on Christ. As the practice described in the bible text bares similarities to Egyptian rituals practised by the followers of Isis.
    Cheers.
