Part of a triptych depicting the three Marys supporting Christ’s journey. His mother, his companion, and his priestess- the Madonna, Mary of Magdala and Mary of Bethany.
This painting illustrates Mary of Magdala lounging before the sea that her kingdom derives it’s wealth and notoriety from. A princess from the fishing village of Magdal, Christ saves her from seven demons before she accompanies him on his journey. The seven demons are referenced with symbols of the seven deadly sins and her salvation by her locket.
