My Three
Graphite (2b to 8b) on A3 UPM Digi white 190gsm paper. My three beautiful kids – Lily 3, Mia 11 and James 5. Taken from three separate photos (it’s impossible to get a decent pic of all three of them together!). Mia decided to chop her hair off and dye it “Lily Allen” style so she stands out quite a bit. This was done for my husband to give to family overseas. Featured in “Creative Spirits of Queensland”, October 09.

Beautiful work Jo! I was just sent a photo of my friends son, wife and child to do a portrait piece. Hope I do it justice as you have done with this art.
Jo Holden replied
Thanks so much! I’m sure you’ll do it justice if your other work is anything to go by. This is the first one I’ve ever done with three subjects on one portrait. I found it a bit stressful – if you stuff up the second, or last subject it ruins all the rest of your hard work!

There’s nothing like the face of a child to stir an emotion. What I see is cheeky innocence here! Beautiful work Jo and what a great idea to combine 3 different photos, I’ll have to remember that.
Jo Holden replied
Thank you Colombe. It’s always tricky combining three photos as all the photos were taken with different exposures and different times of day etc.. Anyway, i think it worked out ok. The ‘client’ (my hubby) seemed very impressed! But then again, I guess he’s a little biased!
