kneeling

Solemn Mother,
with quickening breath
and rapid heart,
open your dark arms wide
and embrace the sweet molten core,
the beating passion
of all things who love,
who cherish,
who sing,
and sway.
Your song can move us
in ways we cannot imagine;
your arms can hold us
in the warmth only a child knows;
your eyes can watch us,
doleful, and wary –
knowing the pain we shall inflict
but knowing the joy
and sheer beauty
of a single spring blossom.
Solemn Mother,
open your dark heart wide
and have hope
where none resides
for us.
