a red sock day (not a green sock day)

the waves splash back from the kitchen tiles
the bubbles bounce through your hair
you are content, it shows in your quiet smile.

The stars shoot down, and graze your shoulder
warmth ebbs from you, but you have plenty to share.
I shelter near.. feeling your feathered locks brush my eyes
your eyes remain closed, locked off from the outside world.

you are humming your own private melody
your heels tap to the same tune
the moon is suspended ever so slightly above you and to the left
I can feel it’s silvery glow

a crow echos in the distance.. it cannot strike through your oblivion.
I am distracted by a tear that swells in my eye
it threatens me, it wants control,
if this one tear escapes from under my lid, this moment will end

it will splash on your red sock (not the green ones today)
and it will pull you from your trance
but this moment, this space in time, is how it was meant to be

you haven’t shaved your legs, i’m not surprised
that’s not what matters to me
it’s the smoothness of your soul
the appeal of your mind that’s brought us here

the bath overflowing and running into the ocean,
you and me beneath the covered night sky.
I know this,
but you, you are lost in your world,
just how it should be.
