Please draw me a picture

almost embarressing to admit that this stemmed from a comment I left on my sister’s facebook page – although i guess – anything that sparks the fire

Dearest Jenna, you should draw me a picture.
A picture of a princess -living in a castle with walls of shiny white tiles. The sun shines off them and the glare blinds anyone who tries to look, the surface so smooth that no one can climb up. People used to try and approach the castle. They used to try and climb it too. But it was a little like Icarus’s attempt to fly, you get close to the light source and you fail and fall.
She’s not a fairytale princess, with long blonde hair, fair skin and blue eyes. Actually she looks more like that girl that used to live next door. Medium length, unremarkably brown hair, average height, medium build. You did notice her eyes though, brown with flecks of green – can you draw that in? Big and dark and deep and rimmed thick with lashes. Just a shame that no one got close enough to brush past and plunge into their depths.

She sits by the window in the tallest town occasionally looks out past the shiny white reflection on the lake below towards the never never of the non-existent horizon. The lake is blue and green and grey and every shade in between. It’s cool and sharp and laps at jagged rocks that edge the soaring white tiled walls. To the other side it meets with dark red earth – packed solid and lightly covered by a sparsely sprouting turf. It thickens into the shade of the forest trees. Not pines or oaks but a mélange of dusty old eucalyptus and heavily laden mango. To her they just look like orange sequins dotted in the distance.

The forest extends into the distance – beyond her view or mine. She looks back down and sighs.
She turns the page of her story, pushes her black framed glasses up her nose and continues reading the story with no end.

So little sister with the magical pencil, will you draw, draw me that princess – please xxx
