Holidays

Since it was only the twenty-sixth of December, there was still time to kill before my kids went back to school. The holidays were over and they were bored. I was baking cookies and wondering if they were going to over-bake because I couldn’t find my oven mitts.

“Honey!” My husband called from the bathroom. “Where’s my robe?”

“Next to my oven mitts. Do you know where they are?” My reply was a slam of the door.

“Mom! Where are my swim shorts?” Tommy yelled.

“In your closet on the bottom shelf. Why?” There was no answer this time. I wonder how my mom put up with this.

“Where’s my helmet?” Jeff came into the kitchen and began opening doors.

“I don’t know,” I answered. “But did you leave this orange in the fridge? It only has one slice taken out of it.”

“No, but I’ll eat it.” He grabbed it and left.

So back to my search for those mitts. I took a kitchen towel and pulled the cookies out before they hardened.

“Hey, Mom! Guess what!”

I turned to see Tommy in his swim shorts, his father’s robe, my mitts, and Jeff’s helmet. He put an orange slice in his mouth and began punching.

“I found another holiday to celebrate! Today’s Boxing Day!”

Oh we don’t have Boxing Day here. I am always wishing we did, not that we can’t celebrate it. I am feeling left out now! Ha ha… I love the child perspective of this story. It’s adorable.

  • We don’t have boxing day either. It’s just that on the caledar It always says on the 26th ‘Boxing day (Canada)’ and i’ve always wondered what it was. This was my interpretation of the holiday. I’m glad you liked it. Thanks!

Nice ride. I like the insight into family management. Are you a mom? The twist pulled it together! Very creative.

  • Thanks! No, I am not a mom, just love kids. I am so happy you liked it!
