Train of Thought

One day I was thinking and I thought about were people go to think. I mean, you can’t just think anywhere. For example, I think in dark, cramped, uncomfortable spaces. I also like to think while doing tedious work with lots of loud noises around me.

If you read this, do you mind sharing where you like to think?

have most of my creative thoughts just before i drop off to sleep! & also random things just pop into my head throughout the day & if i can i just let them take their course to see where they go….i can’t think when i’m stressed!

It’s really nice to think before going to bed. I like to have a notebook on my nightstand to write down anything I think of.
Oddly, I can think when I’m stressed and not when i”m relaxed.

The mind is so wonderful, the way it can store thoughts. I don’t think I ever stop thinking throughout the day. I think. . .

    in bed
    while reading
    when doing dishes
    as I do my homework
    while cutting my toenails
    during gym class
in the middle of a game
    in the shower
    while eating lunch
as I sit on my bed
while looking for my missing clothes

and just about anywhere and while doing anything. I even think in my dreams, if that’s possible. An interesting question, which spurs an even more interesting one: What do you think about?

Yeah, it’s hard to stop thinking. Have you ever tried it? Sometimes when I am so tired at night, I can’t sleep because I keep thinking. I think of one thing, which leads to another and it snowballs from there.

What I think about…the question should be what don’t I think about. I like to think about the future and plan out my life and the way I want to live. I think about people and characters in books and what they do and why. virtually anything that can be thought about I think of. what about you?

I think all the time. I never ‘go’ somewhere and think— though certain places are nice for reflection. The most creative time seems to be when I first wake up and my imagination still feels fluid from dreaming. The product I get then— especially for new writing— seems to be the best. Editing goes well all the time, though often on first drafts I want to shut the ‘editor’ off so I can get the new stuff down.

Yeah, you’re right, we can never go somewhere to think, we just think better at certain times and certain places. If we didn’t think all the time, i don’t know what would happen. Just kidding!

That is a nice time for thoughts to flow. right after a nice dream your creativity is really high. Thanks so much for sharing.

I think best in the car. I keep a note pad stashed between the seats to jot down ideas I come up with. As soon as I get to a stop sign I safely write it down. Or, I sometimes hand the notebook to my son and make him do dictation. This makes him think I am crazy. but, I am a “lister”. I have a running “to do list” that is never completed since I am always adding to it. This actually helps me relax because it gives my brain permission to relax and turn-off because all my important thoughts have been recorded; I don’t have to keep a running tape of what I need to do going on in my mind.

I also use the car to discuss personal things with my son. He is essentially trapped so he is forced to answer. We discuss politics, religion, his crushes, everything. If I tried to get to know him this way at home, it doesn’t work because he takes off to another room.

That’s cool. Driving takes time, and by thnking you use it wisely instead of listening to junk on the radio. So you write when you get to the stop sign, you say? Hmmm…how did your car get so dented? Explain that. (just kidding!)

I might start doing that, making lists. I always forget to do things when i say i will remember and don’t.
I like that you talk with your son when you know you will get him to talk. that’s pretty clever.
