I asked in broken Portuguese and lots of friendly gesturing if this girl could wait while I took a photo. She shyly conceeded, but wouldn’t look at the camera. In her I saw such wisdom, grace and elegance that I’ve rarely seen in someone her age. Born of a life of quiet fortitude.
wow…it’s like she is crossing between two spheres, one in super-vivd colour, the other dull sepia. just amazing.
Wow! I didn’t notice that particularly, but now that you say that, it’s quite metaphorical! One side of life in Africa is vivid, modern and full of advertising for local phone companies (like the one behind her head – mcell) and the other dull and dark side of terrible abuse, sadness, sickness and early death. Interesting observation Tania! ta!
As others have said, that colour palette change is really spesh. Pretty flash how you obviously engage with the human subjects but still keep a sharp eye out for other big elements in your shots Anita.
Thanks Col! I feel all warm and fuzzy now… tee hee. I love humans.
Wow! I’m loving looking through your Africa series! All your images are so beautiful and they really convey your love and respect for your subject matter!
This image is so gorgeous and the girl so amazing!
