Om or Aum (also Auṃ, written in Devanagari as ॐ and as ओम्, in Sanskrit known as praṇava प्रणव [lit. “to sound out loudly”] or Omkara or auṃkāra (also as Aumkāra) ओंकार (lit. “auṃ syllable”) is a mystical or sacred syllable in the Indian religions, i.e. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Om/Aum is Dravidian in origin, having the meaning of “yes”. It has the literal meaning of “It is” or “Will be”. It is the aorist future form of Agu “to become”.
