MOTHER EATER

Why did you do it, why did you do it
What possessed you to become a cannibal
To turn on your mother in her old age
And leave her in a pile on the floor

Your neighbours found you roasting the meat
And wondered about your bizarre actions
There had been no hunting that day
Only you knew what had happened

And yet you were feasting on meat
And your mother was missing
And suddenly the truth came out
You were roasting your mother for dinner

They will say you were insane and so are excused
But what makes one human eat another
And when it is your mother
Is this double insanity or something more

Is the human being a natural cannibal
Controlled only by the rules of society
Now and then someone slips through the net
And we label him insane or something else
