(*Please view larger ) A Woman ploughing the field with 2 large mule / horse hybrids for planting in Longstreet farm in Holmdel NJ , to be planted with winter wheat … this is exactly the way it was… Hand to the Plough copy & paste this link in your browser to see a small wonderful video below http://videos.nj.com/star-ledger/2009/03/visiti... and this information > From the 14-room farmhouse to the fertile fields and busy barnyard, Longstreet Farm at Holmdel Park is a restored “living history” slice of Monmouth County’s late 19th century agricultural heritage. This is a working farm where historical interpreters in 1890’s dress plow the fields, feed the animals, and keep the house as it was in the 1890’s. Included as part of the year-round activities at Longstreet Farm are summer camps and story telling for children; blacksmithing, threshing and quilting demonstrations for all ages; and tours of the buildings and barnyard animals.
Luke 9:62 AMP (62) Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back [to the things behind] is fit for the kingdom of God. / / / / (done with my Kodak Z1285* )

This reminds me of the Amish. Except I don’t think they let the women do the plowing, but they do the house hold work. Do you know anything about her, and the area that you mentioned? A great capture, for sure! There must be a story behind this. Would love to know. :)
Jael , First Thanks so very much for your gracious comment on my work Its really appreciated ! there is only a connection to the past here in Holmdel NJ , this farm is within a park now & is a example of how it was done in the past .. also has cows pigs etc. farm buildings with many photographs & posters etc explaining the history of the land etc.and no connection to Amish.. I will try to put up some more information for you.. on the farm land etc..

Thank you Rick! I do know what women did have to do, it all, at one time. If their men were at war, or they had lost their husband, for one reason or another. Survival, was what they had to do! Very interesting image!!
Your very welcome, This park is outstanding .. I was up in the hills in the beautiful arboretum
taking photographs.. and on my way back down the trail .. I saw this woman ploughing the field in 1890’s dress in the distance and I thought how remarkable it was exactly like going back in time… to the 1890’s I had to take photographs.. I might add others Rick

Oh, I understand it much better! It is almost like the Greenfield village in Dearborn Michigan…where they have many of these old time houses, and people who are doing what they did, in the 1800’s. I think that is a wonderful thing to do, for the sake of the kids especially! They NEED to know the history of our country, and the “way it was”. I appreciate the image so much more, now that I have seen the video. A wonderful story behind it! Thanks for the link.! :)
Your Very welcome … Im glad it was enlightening , thats great about Dearborn Michigan…Its paramount to pass to children & even show them as this farm does ..it makes / leaves a powerful impression & teaching tool , what made us who we are , and where we came from … and demonstrates how easy we really have it today compared to 1890’s and the plough > Jesus used for His illustration .. watching someone plough a row in a field.. you cannot look back without a terrible outcome..
