The Miniature Cat.

“That cat is no fun,
he just lies in the sun
and spends his time sleeping all day.
He looks so nice
and we know he likes mice
but he’s far too big to play”

“If we were taller
or he was smaller,
then his teeth would not be a danger.
A miniature cat,
imagine that,
I can’t think of anything stranger!”

Then one had a notion -
to concoct a potion
and perform a shrinking trick.
“We’ll have to take care
when we add the bat hair,
that it doesn’t make him sick!”

An infusion they made,
using flat lemonade -
and catnip, they also put in it.
They pounded and stirred
while the cat slept and purred.
It only took them a minute!

They put in the the milk,
it looked smooth as silk -
an irresistible drink.
They gave him a stroke
and the pussy awoke,
took one lap and started to shrink!

The cat was so small
that the mice did look tall,
even the young ones seemed big!
The cat, (scared was he
to be so very wee),
started dancing an Irish jig!

His skill was so fine
that each mouse stood in line
and attempted, his footwork, to copy.
Though their effort was fair,
they just couldn’t compare.
(The miniature cat thought them sloppy!)

They played so many games,
(can’t recall all their names),
Puss was amazingly nimble.
When they did ‘hide and seek’
it lasted a week,
the cat hiding under a thimble!

But after a while,
the cat lost his smile,
and the mice, they did empathise.
Pussy promised the mice
that he would still be nice,
should he be his original size!

Amid some confusion,
they made an infusion
that would make tiny pussy re-grow.
Then they said their goodbyes,
with sad tears in their eyes -
but they stayed friends forever, you know!
