This site consists of photographs taken during my recent meditative walks at Cranbrook, a National Historic Landmark 100+-year-old educational, science and arts campus spread over 319 acres in Bloomfield Hills, MI (USA).
I was a student-athlete at Cranbrook School from 1974 to 1976, having received a two-year scholarship from Cranbrook’s nationally renowned Horizons-Upward Bound (HUB) program.
Cranbrook has wonderful grounds, winding cushioned trails, a lake with swans, waterfalls, excellent outdoor sculptures and award-winning architecture.
The Nature found at Cranbrook represents a sanctuary for healing. In my more youthful life, I was able to get away from the concrete and wailing sirens of inner-city life and gaze up at the stars and listen to the harmonious chorus of crickets or watch the effortless glide of the swans moving across a serene lake. Under such conditions, the mind can focus more easily.
Even though the educational environment was engaging, the Nature fostered a deeper sensibility and broader spiritual awareness within me.
It was during my HUB experience and later at Cranbrook that I began to explore ART more deeply.
Now, I return to Cranbrook often. I combine exercise and meditative walks. It is a time for centering, an opportunity to go within.
I hope these images will reveal a glimpse of what I see, how I feel about Art and Nature reflected in God’s creation.
Peace & Grace,
Charles

In these times of information overload,...it is increasing necessary to “escape” into the healing sounds of Nature, while walking along hidden trails…
