Artist's Description

This is an excellent capture of deities possessing the priests of the Voodoo. Voodoo according the people of Benin means the worship of God. Benin is the world’s center for voodoo religion. Like other religions of the world, the adherents believe in God, the almighty, the supreme one and the omnipresent redeemer. He is so powerful that people cannot have direct communications with him. In his stead, God, known as ‘Mawu" in Ghana’s Ewe language, has put spirits in most of his creations including human beings. To most Africans, the spirits that God created reside in the Sea, rivers, ponds, lakes, enormous trees and other creations of His. It is these good spirits that adherents of traditional African religious practices rever and communicates to God through. All spirits or deities have divine priests who oversee and leads the religious practices at the centres of woship known as shrines that are built for those spirits.
During festivals such as these, the priests wear costumes to celebrate and show off their mystical powers.
