Falcon 9 CRS1 Launch by Per Hansen

Photographic Prints

Small (12.0" x 8.0")

The launch as seen from my backyard in Viera, Florida.

This was the first time for a couple of things for SpaceX. It was the first time that they launched at the earliest T-0 available in the launch window, and it was the first time they lost an engine early in the flight (but still made it to their “optimal” orbit it should be noted) proving out the redundancy of the system.

Another first that I’m sure SpaceX could do without: Now they get to experience their first NASA investigation to determine what, why and how the failure took place.

Geek Stuff: Nikon D700, Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8 @ 17mm, ISO 200. Cropped and ’shopped in Lightroom 4

GREAT SHOT! Something seemed wrong shortly after taking off, the group we were with on the beach wondered if it would … Um… Fail LOL

  • Thank you and LOL at the group thought of FAIL. We can’t actually afford to see them fail in the resupply missions at this point.

As it turns out they did actually fail for the secondary payload not being inserted into the proper orbit.
