Space Shuttle Discovery lights up the pre-dawn sky as she successfully clears the tower at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A in Merritt Island, Florida (and not Cape Canaveral as everybody seems to think). This is the 33rd missing to the International Space Station.
3 spacewalks are planned, and there will be 2 Japanese astronauts on orbit at the same time for the first time!
Nerd Stuff: Nikon D700, 500mm, ISO 200, 1/320 second at F/6.3
Location: Kennedy Space Center, FL from the Banana Creek viewing area.
Thanks Larry. It is definitely about as close as you can get to the launch pad and you get that great profile as she clears the tower. This will probably be my last time watching a launch from that location, I’ll probably watch the next one from the VAB or the NASA causeway.
