Oriental Magpie Robin by

The Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but now considered an Old World flycatcher.

They are distinctive black and white birds with a long tail that is held upright as they forage on the ground or perch conspicuously. Distributed in many parts of tropical South and Southeast Asia, they are common birds in urban gardens as well as forests. They are particularly well known for their songs and were once popular as cagebirds.

Super detail! Great capture! Hope you don’t mind a small correction- this is actually a Magpie Robin, Most likely an Oriental Magpie Robin from southeast Asia. Check out the video you have posted of the Willie Wagtail (one of my favorite birds!) You will notice that the Willie Wagtail has a white ‘eyebrow’ and has no white on the wing like the bird in this photo.

  • Absolutely right you are!
Trust me, I am very grateful when someone takes the time to correct something and make a comment about my work. It is greatly appreciated, and thanks again. I have updated my webpage.
