My young adult life was, like most other women, spent in raising a family and running a business, dealing with all the hassles and responsibilities that life can throw at you.

I retired from the workforce at 54 years of age. My children had flown the nest and suddenly I was free to find myself again.

I had never considered myself ‘artistic’ but a friend convinced me to enrol myself in some art classes. I discovered my love for painting and became totally absorbed and passionate about learning all that I could about art.

In 1997, at the age of 57 I set off on my own for three months, backpacking for six weeks through Europe and spending a further six weeks travelling through the United Kingdom.

I visited all the great museums and art galleries and had a wonderful time. It was hard work and very challenging but gave me a great sense of confidence and I am sure was very character building.

When I returned home I enrolled in the Visual Arts Diploma course at Chisholm, Frankston which covers Sculpture, Printmaking, Painting, Drawing and Life Drawing.

I enjoy all mediums of art, however painting is my first love and I work mainly in oils, acrylic and watercolour. Printmaking I find to be fascinating and rewarding. I love making woodcuts and linocuts and am always excited when taking the first pull of a print.

It’s amazing how one’s life changes direction over the years and I am so happy to have discovered the world of art. I’m still on the journey, discovering new things each day, seeing the world and nature from a different perspective and knowing that this journey will last me for the rest of my life.

I exhibit my work at Art Shows and am currently represented in two galleries on the Mornington Peninsula – “A Mermaid’s Tale” gallery at Hastings and “Topaz Gallery” at Tyabb.
