BLACK RHINO - LAKE NAKURU by

A rare Black Rhinoceros out for an early morning walk – Lake Nakuru, Kenya. Like the other four rhinonoceros species, the Black Rhino is critically endangered. Once common in East Africa, the Black Rhino population has been decimated by poaching. It is extinct in Uganda, and reduced to just a small group in Tanzania – all of them in the Ngorongoro Crater. There are a few hundred Black Rhinos living in Kenya – almost all of them on closely guarded “game farms”. A few dozen very nervous individuals can still be found living wild.

Stunning image .. I lived in GILGIL Kenya for 3 years 1961-1964 . It is between Nakuru and Naivasha . Have twin boys born in Nakuru War Memorial hospital . The first twins to be born there and everyone wanted to be at the birth lol. They are 48 this year . If only I had a digital camera then but it brings back memories looking at images on R/B

  • Thanks, Lilian. My wife and I first visited Kenya in 1975. We drove all over the country in a rented VW Bug. There weren’t many large mammals around Lake Nakuru at that time.
