The Balancing Rock Pagoda – Mon State, Burma. Buddhist pilgrims struggle up a steep grade to reach the pagoda. Men are allowed to approach it closely where they pray at its base and apply gold foil. Women have to be content with viewing the shrine from an elevated platform about 10 meters away. The shot was taken at sunset

Girls never get to have any fun. This is a pretty amazing thing!
Fascinating … the steady creation of the world’s biggest nugget! Great shot.
Wow thank you for sharing!
This is amazing. I never heard of it. I wonder who it isn’t more famous. This is incredible. Your photos are amazing.
I think that the reason that this place isn’t more famous is because it is so remote. Getting there involves a 6 hour trip from Rangoon and then a 2 hour slog straight uphill. I’m glad I don’t have to do it twice.

Brilliant. Can I favorite this twice.
Burma is probably my ultimate destination!
This reminds me of one of Steve McCurry’s shots.
Thanks, Anthony – I think that Burma is one of the best places in the world for people watching. It’s hard to believe the variety that one encounters here – all with different styles of dress and a huge assortment of hat options. If you are able to get off the beaten track a bit, you’ll find yourself in places that are completely untouched – places like Rakhine State and Eastern Shan State. Regards – MS
