Charcoal is in short supply in India. Every evening, these charcoal runners travel by foot to the hills south of the city of Jeypore to collect illegally produced charcoal – a trip of more than 20 miles. They return each morning to sell the charcoal to vendors who, in turn, sell it in the market – all for a few rupees.
