JAMBIYA SELLER - YEMEN by

A characterful Jambiya Seller in old Sana’a – one of many colorful characters in this ancient and fascinating city. The jambiya is the ceremonial dagger worn in the waistband of all Yemeni men. The best and most expensive jambiyas have handles fashioned from rhinoceros horn.

Love it. Beautiful isolation against a blended background, great color, vibrancy and details. The expression and posture, screams, “come and see my wares.. I’ll give you the best price” :-) What a great addition to the Art of the Middle East group.

  • Thanks, Eyal – this was the only souvenir peddler that we saw in Yemen. I’d love to go back, especially to Wadi Hadramout, but things are a little dicey over there right now. Regards.
