Ifugao Girl – Northern Luzon, Philippines. The Ifugao People are the predominant ethnic group in this part of Northern Luzon, Philippines. Their incredible rice terraces are very, very old. Many anthropologists consider these terraces to be among mankind’s greatest achievements. They are located at Banaue, about 12 hours north of Manila.

    Gorgeous photo, and excellent information.
    Terraces like these were built long ago, and were still in use in the Mexican Cordillera, but they were most often found on the alluvial fans, mostly narrow and steep in those areas. In the same area, there was a group of Okinawan families that moved to Mexico to settle. I was transcribing the census in that area, and got totally boggled with the Japanese names.
    The same kind of irrigation and planting structures are also found in mountainous areas in South America.
    (The Okinawans didn’t bring the structures with them.)
