Beautiful, the contrast between these fragile looking animals and the imposing massive of the Volcano behind.

This picture has everything. The scenery is beautiful and the animals are a great bonus.

Grrr… it was cloudy when we got to Lauca, when I thought there was always blue sky like this! Still a wonderful place! This is a great capture – could be the same vicunas who posed for me in front of the lake with Quisiquisini in the background!

Krys – Definitely looks like the same group. I think the clouds are a plus – and they may actually be unique. I understand that it has NEVER rained in Arica.

Lori – the altitude here was around 14,000 feet. I’m glad I survived it -I’m not as youg as you.

I can’t take that altitude either. I live at the foot of Pikes Peak, elev. 14,110 and I can’t deal with that altitude. I live at 6700 ft above sea level. I have read that most people can adjust well up to 6000 ft but anything over 10,000 can cause health risks. I’m glad you got some pictures and came back down safely. You’re work is incredible.

It may not have rained in Arica, but when we stayed there, it was very murky during the mornings. I don’t know, I’ve suffered enough clouds in Patagonia – when I’m up in the north of Chile, I expect better weather! ;o)

    Krys -

Must have been the garua – the coastal fog that socks Lima in for most of the year.

Yeah, probably, but even Lima wasn’t as foggy! Is a pain for photography, producing all those horrid white skies! ;o(

Nothing worse than a white sky. That’s why I don’t do landscapes.
