One of the greenhouses, part of the walled garden at Rathmullan House, Donegal.
Rathmullan House is in a unique seaside setting with a three mile beach just yards from the front door. The mature gardens are a joy to explore but the Victorian walled garden is quite amazing. Organic fruit and vegetables are grown to compliment the seasonal menus.
One of my favourite places summer or winter. Wonderful drawing rooms with log fires where one can have a cappuccino, fresh warm home made scones served with home made jams and clotted cream. An experience not to be missed if you happen to find yourself in this part of the world.

My dear Joyce; looks like a very nice capture of a very beautiful greenhouse…………….. and from your description looks like the perfect setting for a cappuccino……. I’m afraid I’m not a big fan of scones, unless they are soft and full of fresh blueberries or peaches…… apricots would do just as fine…. I’ve had them in Venice and they are to die for….. do they bake them with blueberries in Donegal?…….. because if they do, Donegal is much closer to Canada than Venice……….. and I’m sure the cappuccino is just as inviting……. of course if it is served with chocolate sprinkles…….. and served in front of a log fire………….. from your “wanting to experience some cappuccino from Donegal” friend…… Hany

  • My dear Hany………………..glad you like the greenhouse……………..are you sure you are not mixing scones up with muffins……………………..I have never had scones out of Ireland accept in Scotland where they originate………………so we don’t put blueberries or apricots into them……………..they are either plain or with currants……………….you would love them Hany…………….I know you would………………….Donegal is closer but it is not Venice………………by the way…………..I make beautiful scones myself………………but then you knew that already………………can you make the jam??……………I will leave you to peruse your jam making book…………………off to bed shortly to rest my very painful neck……………………….from you ever so slightly agony friend in the land of scones…………………….Joyce…………………………x

Dear, dear, dear Joyce………. I was hoping you would know by now that I would know the difference between a scone and a muffin……… you see my dear, we have scones here too…… All kinds and flavours too………. And I bet you’ve never had them with cheese either………. Yummies if you ask me…… You should try them……….. But I prefer them with blueberries and apricots……. Yum yum yum…….. Now would you like to join me here in Ontario? Or you prefer Venice? I know the perfect place for freshly baked scones in Venice………. with very nice cappuccino……… On another simpler thought…… Why don’t I meet you in Donegal….. You bake the scones….. I’ll prepare the jam……. and we’ll go out for coffee after………. At the greenhouse…… and I’ll massage the pain away from your neck in front of the fire….. Now that’s an offer you cannot refuse……. From your “ready for bed after a long flight home” friend…… Hany
