The Fanad Peninsula is the second largest in Donegal, Ireland. Very beautiful area with long golden beaches and wild romantic scenery. I drove around here yesterday just following the little winding roads with no destination in mind. I ended up here at the very tip of the peninsula guided by the lighthouse which could be seen from further round the coast. I drove between hedges of vibrant red fuschia and the occasional dark peak would make an appearance. Fanad Head Lighthouse was built along the Fanad Peninsula as a result of the Saldana being wrecked on the treacherous rocks below the Head with all lives lost. The only survivor was a parrot, which was identified by a silver collar with the name of the ship on it.

How gorgeous, friend, what a wonderful image. Driving around those small roads with ‘no particular place to go’ sounds idyllic. ……and glad at least the parrot survived, I bet he had some tales to tell! :-). Beautiflul part of the world…

  • Thank you so much my friend for your wonderful comment………………..I love these wild parts of Donegal………………..they are so good for the soul……………………well, as for the parrot…………………I do believe the parrot went on to have a very successful career in British movies of the pirate variety, ending up dead in the famous Monty Python sketch………………..a fairly good innings I should think……………………..cheers my friend…………………………………………………………Joyce
