Mount Errigal by Fara

This is as close as I have ever come to Mount Errigal in Donegal. I have skirted around it so many times but today was the day I was almost tempted to climb it.
The problem was I had not packed my crampons or pitons and it would have been too cold to bivouac half way up from base camp as I had also forgotten my tent.
Don’t you just love all this mountaineering terminology. Maybe I will leave climbing it until winter has passed and I can summon enough experienced RedBubbling mountaineers to organise an expedition. On the other hand I could call in a team of Irish navvies to erect some scaffolding. There will be an endless supply of Guinness and Bailey’s Cheese cake at the Base Camp for the descent.
Please contact me if you would like to be included in this expedition.

Good morning Joyce………. You can count me in…….. for the Bailey’s Cheesecake that is……… oh and the climbing part too……. Very nice image Joyce…….. this mountain looks quite impressive……. Mountains do it for me…… did I ever tell you that? One day it is my dream to climb Mount Fuji…… and I think it is happening sooner than later….. I am planning for the next 2 to 3 years………. I will have to do some research on Mount Errigal…. may be that will be my practice run…….. and all that mounaineering technology…… I just can’t keep up with it all……. what happened to the good old days when you just pack a tent and and a little backpack and go……… and then you get there and say to yourself…….. oh craps…… I wish I packed this…. I wish I packed that…… but you still battle the elements and do it……. and enjoy it…….. no crampons nor pitons…. ok….. you organize the expedition and I’ll be there…… just make sure you bring enough Cheese cake….. I’ll look after the Baileys…… from your dying to climb Mount Fuji friend…. Hany

  • My dear Hany………………….if you are contemplating climbing Mount Fiji, Errigal will be a walk in the park……………………I wonder if Baileys would sponsor this RB climbing expedition, I nearly said exhibition, that might be nearer to the truth…………………we would need to spend some time in the Poisoned Glen which is quite close by to get used to the altitude…………………it is probably about 30 feet above see level……………….would we need oxygen masks, I wonder………………….do the Irish Air/Sea rescue pilots have the necessary skills to ascent to 35 feet…………………..this is where we need someone to co-ordinate all the various aspects………………maybe Dean would be willing to take this on…………………..with his experience of climbing in Nepal and Chile and not forgetting Mount Kosciuszko he should be well able for the task……………..I await further instructions………………..it might be better to try and fit this in before you go to climb Mount Fuji…………………………I nearly wrote mount climb fuji………………now that would be interesting………………I am now going to climb the stairs to do some housework……………..planning expeditions plays havoc with the dusting……………………..the dreaded d work……………………where does all the dust come from by the way…………………and is there angel dust at the top of Mount Errigal…………..we shall see………………from your little in a very flirtatious mood friend in Ireland………………..Joyce!!

I can be your chief Guinness and cheesecake taster. I can do that very important important job of ensuring that the supplies are up to standard. Of course, my duties will probably result in my puting on a few pounds so this will rule me out of the actual climb, a hardship I am willing to endure to make sure that everyone is safe from inferior sustenance …

  • My dear Tom…………………I am delighted that you are going to be part of this expedition to climb Errigal…………….we need someone of your sensibilities and wisdom to keep us in check otherwise we will end up in the nearest hostelry looking at Errigal through a haze of Irish Mist………………………you know the sort I mean…………………….lethal and very palatable…………………….when I get enough RBubblers interested I will be calling on your organisational skills…………………….thank you dear Tom……………………..x

Stunning views and landscape Joyce!!…I see you have some sun and shadows on the mountains so I presume it’s a little warmer for you…I’ll join your expedition but I will stay at base camp and do the cooking lol…I’m such a coward with heights.

  • Thank you Kate………………I am delighted that you will join the expedition to Mount Errigal………you will not regret it and you won’t have to climb higher than base camp……………….I think if this actually happened everybody would be at base camp………………..well maybe not Hany and Dean…………it would be a race to see whether the Canadian or Aussie flag was raised first on the summit………………….the more I think about this idea is entirely possible in about 2 years time when I get my zimmer frame for reaching the glorious age of…………………no I will not say at this stage…………………..no the weather has not heated up one little bit……………….it was sunny at times yesterday in Donegal but no warmth at all……………………I need a bit of heat this year and so far nothing is happening……………..it is a long story which I will tell you about one day soon…………………..have a lovely Sunday my base camp partner……………………love Joyce…………….xx

If there is one thing that you do well Joyce is that you either make me smile or giggle before I go to bed….you guys are so much fun and I enjoy you so much…little secret I haven’t mentioned yet is that I have climbed or rather walked up Mt Kilimanjaro a couple of years back and all I remember is just how cold and misty it was…so yes I will guard the Bailey’s cheesecake and make sure Tom doesn’t take more than is alloted to him, fear not…Kate’s guarding the pantry on this trip…Mount Fuji sounds interesting but altitude sickness is a bit of a problem there so tell Hany to send scouts out there before he goes, so as I now climb the stairs to retire for the evening (which you should be doing already) I will try to peer through the Irish mist. and see you again tomorrow.
