Driving through the mountains of North Western Majorca was quite hairy at times particularly for RB Indigobrooke who had to navigate. However it was worth it when we arrived at this gorgeous village. Looking out at the stormy weather we are having I would quite like to be back in Fornalutx.
Fornalutx is one of the many impossibly beautiful mountain villages that dot the mountainside in northern Mallorca. It’s located about 6km east of Soller, and consists of winding, narrow streets joined by steep staircases, and picturesque leafy squares. It’s scenic location has made it very popular with ex-pats, who apparently own about 40% of the homes in the village.
The nicest approach to Fornalutx is on foot from Soller. The path is well signposted and easy to follow, and for most of the walk you follow the GR 221, a long distance hiking path that crosses the island from west to east. The views along this route are great, both of the valleys around Soller, and the mountains behind. After about 30 minutes walking you arrive in Fornalutx, where there are plenty of nice cafes and restaurants to pause for a break.
