If you ever find yourself on the island of Lanzarote off the coast of West Africa you have to visit this wonderful cactus garden. Designed by the artist Cesar Manrique whose influence is to be seen all over the island
César Manrique found the site of the old disused quarry and mill in Guatiza in the seventies and although work began in 1976, the Cactus Garden wasn’t inaugurated until much later in 1990, this would be César’s last project in Lanzarote before his untimely death in 1992.
Because of its sheltered position a great many cacti from around the world flourish quite happily in this volcanic terraiin.
