Derry City on the banks of the River Foyle in N Ireland on a very pleasant mid October day. I came to live in this city in 1964, left a few times to live in other places but I came back here in the early seventies and never left. It is a wonderful place to live. It is friendly, vibrant, historically very interesting and if you come you will not be disappointed. The building in the centre of the image is the City Hotel which overlooks the river and the Peace Bridge. It is a city which has emerged from years of conflict into a place of peace and fun for all to enjoy.

Good morning Joyce; should I look at this image as an invitation to the Maiden City of Derry?……. Ahhhh… just got back from Paris after a 10 day exhausting but a wonderful trip…… starting everyday at 5:00 or 6:00 am and ending at anywhere between 12:30 and 2:00 am….. yes, all photography……. call me crazy……. but how can you resist the magnificence and the history and the art and the monuments and the sculptures and the fountains and the gardens and the museums and the art galleries and the bridges and the obelisks and the long narrow streets and, and, and……… and not to forget the women…… oooh la la……. the hair and the boots and the high heels and the perfumes and the make-up….. and how could I not mention the cheeses and the wines…… where do I start…… my heart needs to slow down for a bit before another trip like that…. So I am afraid my friend that Derry has to wait for a bit…… this weak heart of mine has to recuperate for a bit…. LOL……… will send you a bmail soon for an update…….. in the meantime, I truly hope to experience your friendly and vibrant city one of these days……. may be sooner than you think……. nice image……… from your “getting ready to go back to work” friend…………. Hany. P.S. Hope all is well with you………

  • Dear Hany………………..good to hear from you as I did miss your regular banter…………….I can now look forward to a portfolio of Paris……………….how wonderful……………….I agree with you about the French women and a few French men too………………….I am a big fan of good French perfume as you know but I rarely encounter the heady aromas while walking around Derry……………………if I could walk behind myself there would not be a problem………………….haha……………….in your absence Susan and I have been amusing ourselves with images of fairly naked men…………………….we are hoping to encourage the males of RB to change their avatars to something more interesting and you are at the top of the list with Dean coming in second…………………..we are having great weather at present so I am going to go wandering around the city with the camera in the hope of seeing something worth photographing………………………..there always is, of course……………………….stay safe at work and try to slow down a little, you mad man…………………………from your ‘going to do some boring housework’ friend…………………Joyce

It really is good that the madness from the troubles is now behind you, long may it continue. We have never visited NI. Been all over Britain but never crossed the water, we will have to try and remedy that. Nice shot by the way.

  • We have had a lot of tourists this year and the weather has been so brilliant……………………….you should try to visit you would not be disappointed…………………………..let me know when you are coming……………………….thanks Colin…………………………x
