San Gimignano Fresco by Fara
Clear

Walking through the narrow cobbled streets of San Gimignano in the Tuscan hills is a step back to a more gracious time. Impressive towers, built by wealthy merchants in the middle ages stand proudly against a blue sky. Terracotta pots overflowing with geraniums and ferns peep out from behind wrought iron gates, and wonderful frescos like the above image adorn the exterior and interior walls of honey coloured stone churches and municipal buildings. It is not a place to rush, but rather a place to sit and contemplate the richness of the culture in this little corner of paradise.

Awesome image Joyce; I truly know how you felt when photographing scenes like this; you really want to, but afriad of being escorted out………….. but don’t worry my friend…… you’re not alone in this one………… I admit I am guilty of it as well…………….. beautiful capture…………. reminds me of the mosaic fresco at the Aya Sofya in Istanbul………… looks majestic and of a different world………. it is always humbling to experience images like that in our hearts……….. thank you my friend for sharing this magnificence with us…………….. your “in another little town in the middle of no where and for the rest of the entire week” friend…………. Hany

  • My dear Hany……………..as always thank you for your wonderful comments………………I would love to see the Aya Sofya in Istanbul……………………I love Turkey but I have only been to the Aegean and Med coasts………one day perhaps………………….things are a bit scary here at the moment……………….there was a major security alert in my area over the last 24 hours…………………..fortunately the police caught the terrorists who would have caused mass murder if they had got through with the bombs………………………what is wrong with the world………………….I will get a bmail off to you when I catch up with my work…………………………….stay safe my friend and I will do the same…………………….hugs Joyce

So old and so beautiful !
It is a pity that some places do not allow photography, but I can understand the blanket rule, as time and time again I see people who either don’t have a clue, or don’t care about the damage flash can do, even in places where they have been told by a guide , or where the instruction is well signed in many languages.

  • Thank you so much Trish………………..I know exactly what you mean…………………..I do hope you were able to get to San Gimignano and Siena……………………….Italy is a dream destination and it is so diverse……………….I just love it……………………….love Joyce
