The sun is on its way up; it hasn’t fully hit the top of the horizon just yet. No alarm needed! He can feel every part of his body rising out of bed; it is like he had just closed his eyes. Remembering the night before the red light flashing on the answering machine, ten new messages all needing to be returned before, he could sit with the family for dinner. He constantly can hear drip drip drip, duty is calling. He had heard once loud and clear, long ago, now somewhere in the forgotten whispers, in the back of his mind, that self employment is the dream for everyone, he often wonders as the days grow long, why the loud voice faded. At least, no emergency calls last night all services could wait till today. As he showers, he is mapping out the days repairs and installs making note that he can hear the water pipes from his own shower shake, rattle and shimmy, making note to fix and repair as soon as he is finished. Then, remembers his long day ahead he decides to fix the pipes at the end of the day. Two-thirds of his day has been uneventful which is a wonderful surprise getting home for dinner, and sitting down with the wife and kids and listen to the days events are a welcome relief. Just as the thoughts finish, the pipes he is working on are suddenly gushing, this repair will not be quick. His thoughts go to dinner and family; they are no longer available for today’s calendar. As he heads home hours past dinner, he has a thought, as he knows, dinner was missed, the red light will be flashing, there is always tomorrow, tomorrow he’ll fix his pipes.
