It is always exciting to see the first wildflowers of the season, these welcome little flowers were found along some hiking trails on May 20.
These flowers also go by the name of Prairie Anemone or Pasque Flower. The flower is approximately 4 cm in diameter which opens in the day and closes at night. The new blossoms are blue-purple that fade after opening. The plant is very showy when backlit by the sun as it appears to be surrounded by a glowing fuzzy halo.
