Canadian Pennies
Devon, Alberta, Canada

The first pennies were used in Canada since 1858 when we adopted the decimal system. The Royal Mint has produced over 35 billion pennies and now Canada will begin phasing out the penny in its coinage system in the fall of 2012 due to the high cost of production. Word on the street has it that it costs the government 1.6 cents to produce a penny. Sounds like a good decision, eh?

  • Thanks, this is the kind of stuff you end up shooting around the house when it’s too snowy outside to do anything else!
