Where do they go?
In Ancient Egypt, the richt and powerful had themselves embarmed and entombed in the belief that they would have eternal life. In other cultures other rituals accompanied or still accompany the dead. The equivalent these day would probably be freezing. I don’t think anyone did actually come back to life. We can hope that we won’t be forgotten by those who care. But even that is not guaranteed. So let us write another poem or paint another painting…....

Godlike felines guard their tombs.
This earthly life is but a passage.
Sovereign and slave will be as one.
Embalmed with sweetest oils
and wrapped in finest linen,
the Kings embark on their long journey
into untrod territory,
sustained by the fruits of life;
served by those who love them
beyond their own earthly life.
Or do they?
Who can keep a promise of eternity?
Who can know what Gods will interfere?
What is sacred now may not be sacred then.
Let us therefore now enjoy
the little life that we still have.
The servant shall be king, the king usurped.
The lowly shall survive.
