mammy's sweetheart

mammy's sweetheart

I’ve added the Monty Python Life of Brian lyrics to this image, too (they are also paired with the tiny image of the camel). Actually they seem to be appropriate for all philosophizing purposes. Sometimes humour (and one can hardly call these lyrics great poetry) can trigger other emotions and maybe make one forget one’s troubles, if only for a moment.

Some things in life are bad, They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you’re chewing life’s gristle, Don’t grumble, Give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best. And…
Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle]
If life seems jolly rotten, There’s something you’ve forgotten,
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps, Don’t be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That’s the thing. And…
Always look on the bright side of life. [whistle]
For life is quite absurd And death’s the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin. Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It’s your last chance, anyhow. So,...
Always look on the bright side of death, [whistle]
Just before you draw your terminal breath. [whistle]
Life’s a piece of shit, When you look at it.
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show. Keep ‘em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
Always look on the bright side of death, [whistle]

Fantastic shot Faith. I love this whimsical and very strange and amusing shot, another aspect of you that is wonderful to see. I have so many wacky and humorous shots and stories to tell and you have inspired me with this wacky bird. I love it!!!

  • Faith Puleston replied

Thanks, Julie. It is the whole painting, actually. When I started painting very large heads (this is 80×80cm) I found I was laughing inside doing them. The best one (of a camel) was unfortunately sold and I have no high resolution photo of it. I find animal heads uproariously funny. Have you ever watched how a giraffe raises its upper lip? Camels do that, too. In fact, lots of creatures have astonishing similarities with one another, and of course, it’s common knowledge that some owners get to look like their pets – or is the other way round? When I see photos of funny animal faces I want to commit them to canvas, but I’ve haven’t done one for ages. A pity really. I’ll get some new closeups at the local zoo when the weather gets more friendly! Camels are particularly photogenic…...... And not forgetting people. People are THE wackiest. We all have cartoon potential. In your profession you must meet the crème de la crème!

I love you wacky and very funny animal faces. It is true that people look like their animal companions. I think you have it right. We choose animals that have some similarity to us and then after living with us, the start to incorporate our attitudes, expressions and physical appearance. I look forward to more of these great animal heads. I dabbled in doing cartoons using the program comic life that I hope to resume. The only one I did is on artwanted.com/masterofthemaze about Molly and her grandwitch. My writing was more conservative than I probably would be on RB since we have more freedom to write and I can imagine some very funny comics. I love to see this side of you. Now we need some big wacky and comical interpretations of large
people heads. You can start with our President Bush. I read a book that is a psychoanalytic interpretation of Bush and his family titled Bush on the couch(no pun intended). :))

  • Faith Puleston replied

Thanks Julie. Maybe it’s a reason people usually debate for ages over what animal they want to have! But this look-alike business can work the other way round. Some people I know got themselves a new “hunting” dog. A retriever, I think. A lovely, long-limbed pinky-beige animal. They tried to train it, but it apparently had the wrong character. It took them over a year to admit they were the wrong owners. No analysis here, though. I’ll save it for my journal or a bubblemail! And how do I equate Bush with such beautiful creatures as camels and emus? Mind you, as far as character is concerned, there could be similarities – I said could be…..... A challenge worth taking up though. I drew a charicature of Prince Charles once. I’ll look for the image and maybe park it at RB for your amusement. lol

I knew that there was something funny and full of love-life when I have seen it in thumbnail.
    And then… I read the words…!!!!
Yes… it is the anthem for our daily going along…our bad times.. our unpurposed moments…where we feel lost and decayed…
And while reading them.. could not take the face of Eric Idle singing with such a sweet accent and convincing expression.
so.. you see.. your lovely birdy-singing-the-bright-side-of-life….has made me more than smile…
The painting is wonderful…besides all this giblishing I have been muttering…I love it!

I’m glad the poem and image did the trick. Some days just start bad and end bad and it’s cheering to know we are all in the same boat!
Thanks for the thoughtful comment and keep smiling!!!!!

For an ostrich, he looks pretty cute : ) I tend to look at some people like that from time to time..lol Great work Faith….And unlike the ostrich, I try to keep my head out of the sand ! You are really good as an artist Faith : ) I love your style !

  • Faith Puleston replied

Thanks so much for the compliment! Actually, ostriches may have got it right, after all. On the other hand, certain world leaders seem to do that all the time (head in sand) ....
