The Messenger
I’m not a poet nor a writer but was experimenting with ways of communicating a dream. These verses accompany a painting of the same title.
The Messenger belongs to the following groups:
Mature Woman and Spirit of the Native AmericanThe Messenger
In the realm of dream
She stood,
Hair dark as Crow’s wing against the new moon.
Immobile features; a chiseled mask of
Honey toned wood,
Eyes black as jet.
Deep within tilted dark sockets something glimmers,
Firefiles and dew sparking in the late dusk.
Yours is the feminine she said,
Mind to mind, holding a shield before her.
Peering at the shield’s design I perceive
movement and depth.
It is a window
Into the universe, other realms.
Within this living hoop
I see the continuum
The black void of space besotted with sparkling stars
Arcing on one side, a sliver of crescent moon.
I count the eagle feathers: 1 for every direction.
Handing me a fistful of fresh female sage
Yours is the feminine she said.
I crush a few narrow, pale leaves between my fingers
Inhale the sharp clean scent,
and awaken.

Thank you for reading this. For creatives working with dreams can be an inspiring practice. However, I have no background in poetry or writing, except for term papers, case studies and letters. I read what other people are putting up and know my work is amateurish. Still I enjoy trying my hand at it and if other people dont mind reading it, am a happy woman.
