This day was of more industrial and historic importance. There was too much of interest to describe in one session so this is the morning.
198209090001 Hotel Port Pirie
I do not remember whether we atayed here or not, but it was for me part of the history of the town.
198209090002 Port Pirie Railway station Museum
The station was no longer a going concern on trains between Adelaide and Port Augusta.
198209090004 Lead Smelter Wharf Port Pirie
We went down to the wharf to see what was happening. No idea of the amount of traffic there world be.
198209090006 Lead Smelter wharf Port Pirie
We were fortunate to be there just as a boat was coming into harbour.
198209090010 Boat coming in Port Pirie
We assume it was coming to be loaded as the Plimsolls line was so far out of the water.
198209090013 Train Port Pirie Wharf area
There were no passenger trains to Port Pirie but plenty of goods trains.
198209090014 South Australian Engine Port Pirie
The small engines of this nature wre the only ones we saw here.
198209090015 South Australian Loco Port Pirie
The wee none of the larger Australian National locos which we had seen at Thevenard handling the gypsum trains/\.
198209090017 Wharf and Boat Port Pirie
As we watched we saw a boat being brought across to dock by what seemed a pretty small tug boat.
.
198209090019 Boat Port Pirie
The boat itself was very impreesive against the light.
198209090027 World Crystal Panama Port Pirie
The little yellow boat made me think of the boss with the tug in the background doing the work.
198209090029 World Crystal Panama Port Pirie
It is even more obvious here.
198209090043 Railway platform Port Pirie
The end of the line for some bits and pieces.
198209090044 Railway trucks and silos Port Pirie
I do not know what went into the silos, but it would not have been likely to have come from these trucks.
198209090045 TV station Port Pirie
When I first saw this I though another lovely old house, but then found out it was the local TV station.
198209090046 Old Road Bridge Rocky River nr Crystal Brook
We headed out from here to go to Burra, and went through a place called Crystal Brook. This little bit of water was the largest we saw so I presumed it was the Crystal Brook.
198209090047 old farmhouse nr Spalding
This farmhouse had been built in better days when there had been a time of rain. The trip to Burra was south of the Goyder Line and we were surprised how dry it was in an area which Goyder had expected to be suitable for agriculture.
198209090048 old shed nr Spalding
The shed associated with this farm had certainly seen better days, and I don’t think they would be returning, although it was not in what Goyder had declared unsuitable for farming. As we headed further south east to Burra things improved.
