Famous rivers of the world. The Finke is one of the oldest known rivers. It does not flow continuously and never reaches the sea. it only flows after local downpours and it had been some years since it had last flowed here. Down in the gap between the hills on the right there is a small permanent water hole which is part of the reason for Glen Helen station. There was a reliable water source. The station is now with hotter drier weather not doing so much cattle raising, but has found the shepherding of tourists in the area a much better proposition. They do not just provide horse experience but also land rovers and personal helicopters as ways of seeing the country (none of which we could afford) as well as accommodation and food.

Taken with Pentax LX camera and Pentax 28 mm shift lens on Kodachrome 200 film.

Great shot, I love the contrast between the dry river bed and the lush leaves on the trees!! Oz is drying up we are getting wetter!!

  • Thanks. That was the only tree for yards and yards.

Beautiful. I like how you’ve used the tree to frame the image.

  • Thank you. It was the only one nearby.
