1988 R type steam Locomotive Echuca station by

We had gone to Echuca to see the restored wharf area, and were very pleasantly surprised to fin a Steam Rail excursion at the railway station. The R class locomotives were one of the last steam types introduced to the Victorian railway system before they went diesel. It has always impressed me when I see it. Here it was just sleeping while the tour had a look at the wharf.

Taken with a Pentax camera on Kodachrome film.

Love the angle on this and a great testament to bygone days. These steam loco’s always seem alive, unlike the diesel or electric ones we use today.

  • Thanks, Yes the steam gently escaping was much better than the thump of an idling diesel.
